04/28/00 Fishing Report
Water temp is 65 lake is 10 ft low, water is clear. Stripers to 15 lbs are still biting on top water lures like red fins or spooks all over the lower end of the lake. Bite is very early and late unless the skies are over cast and then the bite is all day. Smallmouth to 6.5 and blacks to 7 lbs are good on top water lures like spooks, pop-r's, some spinner baits and rattle traps. They are in areas of sand flats & islands in 6-10 ft of water. White bass are excellent, they are in the mouths of all the major creeks and are hitting on small top water lures like tiny torpedos and 1/4 oz road runners. Catfish are good on cut shad on the lower end of the lake.

Chris a full time professional guide on Lake Whitney since 1989 owns Little Rocky Lodge and Guide Service with wife Lesli. It is a beautiful spot located on a bluff overlooking the lake with "country cottage" cabins. The lodge facilities include a boat ramp and slips, RV sites, covered pavilions, BBQ grills, swimming pool, plus a whole lot of special treatment. Chris guides on Lake Whitney for striped bass and the Brazos River for trophy smallmouth. Best times are year round with Chris guiding on the river during the hot months of July - September. He fishes out of a 1999 24 foot VIP Baystealth  and a 16 foot aluminum boat with a jet pump outboard for the river fishing. He furnishes all the tackle and cleans the striper catch. River fishing for bass is catch and release. Chris holds several records on the lake and river. White Bass 2.88, Spotted Bass 2.98, Freshwater Drum 25.64, Previous Brazos River Striper 23.14, Brazos River Smallmouth Bass 7.00. Also big fish awards include 6.90, & a 6 pound 10 oz monster smallmouth. With several articles in magazines, and TV shows to his credit this is the main guy on Whitney. He is sponsored by VIP boats, ABU Garcia, Halo Lite Lures, and Marine Land of Waco.
