05/05/00 Fishing Report
By James Brumfield
Fishing on Lake Fork is improving each day.  The spawn is basically over and the fish are finally coming out of the "post spawn blues".  They are moving in and about the shallows with some moving to deep water.  I am catching bass in a variety of ways.  My first choice is a carolina rig centipede in watermelon or kudzu color fished in 10 foot or less of water.   The Texas rig power worm by Berkley is also working on these same fish.   A little crank bait, such as the Bandit 100 series or the Bill Lewis rattle trap in fire tiger or bar fish colors is also working. The top water bite should break loose any day now.  When this happens, I will be fishing a buzz bait or the Yellow Magic Pop R or a Zara spook. I will be working these lures over the grass as the bass will be there feeding on the perch and shad that are in shallow spawning.  The water temperature on the lake ranges fron the high 60's to the low 70's.
